McAllen is the largest city in
Hildago County, Texas, and one of the fastest growing towns in the country. We are one of the principal communities of the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission Metropolitan Statistical Area. State Highway 495, as well as U.S. Highway 83 and 281, serve our town.
Not until the early 1850's, when John McAllen arrived in the Rio Grande Valley, did development begin to come together where our community is today. In 1907, other developers started a town on their own land tract and named it East McAllen. The two groups joined forces soon thereafter and by 1910 had built several businesses, churches, residences and a newspaper. The next year, the city of McAllen was incorporated.

McAllen is positioned on the migratory path between North and South America. The landscape hosts a diverse wildlife population.
Downtown's 17th Street is quickly becoming the area for nightlife. With restaurants, bars and clubs, 17th Street is the place to go for a great time.

Enjoy museums such as the International Museum of Art & Science as well as the
Museum of South Texas History. Art and working artists can also be found at the
McAllen Creative Incubator and numerous galleries.
We are home to Rio Grande Speedway, a quarter-mile dirt track that hosts races
the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from March through November, and a
national multi-day event toward the end of the year.
